Merry Christmas

Baby it's cold outside! I've been singing this in my head all morning. We have a surprise this morning. We woke up this Christmas morning w/snow on the ground. Thanks Jesus, for this extra surprise, and Happy Birthday!

Now it almost feels like christmas. I want to wish all my family, and friends a Merry Christmas. I hope you have a wonderful day full of traditions, and for some families, like my friends K & J w/their new baby.

My mom was able to get our tradition in last night, which is reading to all of us The Night Before Christmas.

Well we have lots to do, remember I'm the last minute gift wrapper, and then I have to get ready.

As you can see, every moment I have to enjoy the sun, I do. When that back door opens, I head to the spot where the sun is; aahh.

Where do you enjoy your sun, the beach, a walk in the park, or at a baseball game?

Signs of the Holidays

I know everyone is crazy busy, but do you see signs of another holiday season around us? Retail stores gives us the perfect signs. You will see decorations hanging above your head as you walk through out the mall, hear Christmas music in every store, and to top it off Santa is already in the mall ready to listen to screaming kids jump on his lab to tell him the latest hot toy!

For me, holiday seasons come early b/c I work in the mall. I'm also playing Christmas music in flute choir. Christmas goes by super fast for me since I stay busy running around both jobs, playing for my community and giving back to my community w/Toys for Tots. I've supported this charity for the last 4 years and was even on TV one year. You see me w/my toy in hand going to deliver the gift.

If you have not seen the sings of the holidays, just stop in your tracks w/your crazy schedule and get wrapped in your holiday moment.

The Perfect start to Monday

A cup of coffee is exactly what I needed this morning. This morning was a special cup of coffee; it was not to go! Yes, I'm finally off. I've worked the last three weeks straight. Luckily my body did not feel the constant work. I've been drinking tea, lots of water, and eating the occasional apple and orange. I also am able to spend drinking a nice cup of Joe w/ my hubby. Yep, we are off together today. As I'm writing this blog, he is on the other computer researching a card table & chairs. Why you ask?

Well, we are having Thanksgiving dinner/cowboy game(can't forget that) for the first time at our apartment. We only have 4-6 spots at the table & 3 on the couch w/TV treys. I think we will be shopping for a table today.

Lots to do for my day off, so I'm signing off. Everyone enjoy you Monday.

Grooming Day

I'm all clean again. You can now see my eyes, but be careful to pick me up today, b/c my nails are sharp. Mom & Dad give me a bath every three to four weeks, and occasionally I let Elizabeth my groomer take care of me. Thank you all for keeping me squeaky clean!

Am I Stubborn or do I just know what I want

I go back and forth w/ my career as a young 20 something. I have many interests that also partner well with my goals. I have long term goals as many of you do out there. In turn I talk to people and they see my skills, and powerfulness as a business women and here it goes. The famous question, "We are hiring, and would like you to join our team." For a moment I get excited. I see doors opening closer to my dream. Then the first statement following the famous question is, "We can pay you BLANK amount." Wow, of course, you see me, college educated, dependable, does not call in sick, hard working, lots of management years, any screaming, unhappy, happy, crazy customer, make an impact while I'm with your team, etc. I begin saying, "Of course you want me, but you can't afford me."

This is where the stubbornness comes in. The last 3 jobs I've taken, all have been w/ a pay decrease. I chose these jobs b/c I was promised futures. Well things always happen for a reason. So do I take the job opportunity in my near future, or do hold back? I know I've been talking about stubbornness all night, so here it is. Since my last 3 jobs, I've had to make a little less in hopes for a future, I've said for the last two yrs. I refuse on taking another pay cut. I truly believe now, in my young women career I should ask what I'm worth. Do you hear me? I deserve MY opportunity. All the things I've labeled in this blog about me, that comes too.

On another happy note:
Happy Birthday to my sister! I hope you are enjoying your day and night. We will meet up later.
Congrats to a friend on getting engaged in the same city as I did!

Fall in Texas

Here at YoYo's house we are super excited for the season "Fall". As you may have noticed when you jumped on our site. Do you like? Well, we do. A little mouse told me I needed to change up our background as the other one was boring. I also found a new thing I like; buttons. A friend in gave me a button, but I guess I was too late b/c it expired. I was inspired to branch out a little and accessorize our blog. I hope you like the new look.
Now on to Texas seasons. I know technically according to the calendar we are in fall, but in Texas, our fall season to me I believe has just begun this week. I have noticed our leaves changing color, and falling. When I took YoYo out on Sunday, we both noticed leaves on the ground. I remember going inside and telling my husband about the leaves, which then turned into a conversation of seasons. I told him that the sutle hints we see outside make me look back on the summer and ask ourselves, "did we do everything we wanted this summer?" He said he is glad that the 100+degree days are over. He loves the crisp air at night and wish we could open our house all night, but we don't want to get sick.
Other funny things about fall is when your tomato plant is still growing, and producing tomatoes, it just take a bit longer for them to ripen.
If you have an acorn tree go outside and collect acorns and put in a decorative glass bowl like I did. I just hope bugs don't come out of them!
Get outside today and enjoy this 70 degree weather and have fun!

A Good Bottle of Wine Goes Great w/?

Friends! Yep, countdown in less than 30 minutes. I always say a good bottle of wine is best shared with friends. We also have cheese, (yummy), fruit, and chocolate (double yummy)! Is anyone jealous? Well you should be because you are also missing out of a night of planning one of the best trips ever. More on that later, unless you are interested on going skiing w/us this January.

Well, enjoy your night. I'm sure my phone will be blowing up w/ text, email, and oh, phone calls as that's what a phone is used to since before our time! Seriously if anyone is interested in a ski trip to start out 2010 please let me know.

Vacation Look Back

I've looked back a couple of weeks now, and I think finally all the memories have sunk in from our Vegas trip. You know that feeling when you are actually in the moment doing your activities, it takes you another moment to realize all you've done.

I will never forget our 8 course meal at Aureole. This is the top of the list for fine dining in Vegas. This place has been featured on the travel channel. The restaurant has a multiple story wine cellar. We watched a lady scaffold to get a bottle of wine. We had our very own wine steward, 5 men helping us, ate duck, lamb, and other new things for the both of us. We even watched 3 swan over the course of diner. If I had three words to describe this experience they would be: intimate, mouth watering, amazing.

We enjoyed watching the Criss Angel show "Believe" at the Luxor. We recommend this show if you like Wade Robson's choreography. He is from SYTYCD (So You Think You Can Dance) FYI, if you have not seen this show, they are now in season 6, and they picked the top 20. Stay tune on your Fox network as it is worth every dance to watch.

Finally I really enjoyed our down time with Allen's cousin and wife. We saved money by staying a couple of nights w/them, and grilling. We even roasted marshmallows and made smores one night.

We made it to our 2ND October Fest in Fredericksburg w/our friends Craig & Kaylan. My sister, Brittany and her boyfriend, Chad also came down for the festival. Read more on our weekend over at Steppin' up to the Eastepp's blog. She did an awesome job at posting our weekend.

Again three words to describe this weekend would be: Winery's, Beer, Brats.

I now officially feel better for posting our post vacation update!

Weekend Review at a Glance

Hello all,
I will update everyone on our Vegas trip later, but I want to take a moment out of this already hectic Tue. to let everyone know what a fabulous weekend we had.
Friday night:
  • We met up w/friends (Craig & Kaylan) to help celebrate a wonderful moment in our friends life (Jason). He will be moving to NYC to begin his career in a very prestigious field.
  • We began our night at one of my favorite local places: Italianni's.
  • Then we headed over to the Sky bar in Grapevine, and concluded our night in uptown Dallas. We were in the pre-game-night of activities as it was Texas/OU weekend.
Saturday:
  • Watched Texas win their 6th time against OU!
  • We finally ate at Fuzzy's -very yummy taco's!
  • Visited downtown main street in Grapevine
  • Shopped in Southlake -got new running & yoga pants from Lucy
  • Finished the night at a wine place where we blind tasted 5 whites. We got 3 right!

Sunday:

  • Cleaned house
  • I read Wicked/Allen took a nap
  • I had a flute concert (Thanks so much Tom & LeeAnn for attending)
  • We went to Carraba's w/Allen's parents after my concert

Overall, this weekend was a great weekend. I was entertained, rested, played my flute, and ate lots of food!

So, for those out there in blogger world here is an update, or for me a year later, if I ever go back to read old posts!

Vegas Baby

Yep! We arrived in Las Vegas Saturday night. We have had a wonderful time with our family. We've enjoyed two nights of grilling & chilling. Sunday we went shopping at the Palazo & the Venetian. We enjoyed lunch at Wolf Gang Pucks restaurant. While we were eating we got to enjoy live statue art, and a live small theatre production. We stopped at a neat Tea place which had 2 walls full of all kinds of tea pots. The back wall had loose leaf tea that they sold by the ounce. We sampled a rare tea that originates from China. This tea has the most antioxidants which is good for you anytime. So $45 later I now have tea that the lady said should last up to a year. I can drink it by itself or add to other teas.
Today: We get to check in to our hotel and tourist the strip. We are going to watch the Cowboy game tonight, but I'm not sure where yet.
So, while most of you begin your weekly routines at home such as school, and work we are chilling here in Vegas.
I say most of you because I know one of you blogger friends (really close friend) will not get to do the daily routine. Just know that we are thinking of you during this hard time today.

Patience

Lately at the YoYo's house we have been looking for a backyard for him. Yes, a HOUSE! Several emotions come w/a house:
One moment you get excited, the other moment scared. We have looked online forever, then we finally got to view homes on Monday. All homes had their very own unique style. Oh and being in the industry that I am in, as soon as I walk into a Short Sale house it is the same feeling. I don't understand why people leave change all throughout the house and take fixtures. Anyways, we found a house that we could see us entertaining you guys in, and creating millions of memories in. The house had all the features we were looking for.

On the flip side, we are currently in a contract and it's going to cost way too much to get out of. Many of you know about the gov. incentive right? and the amount? Your right on the money about amount. I don't even like writing the figure down, oh well.

Is the bread ready? You know the main ingredient in bread is the yeast, and the yeast has to rise just so! Well, thanks Zack for the quick moment on the phone last night. You said it perfectly, "Time is on your side, simply be patient." "You are happy where you are."

Now you know what's been buzzing around at YoYo's house. What's been buzzing around yours?

Waiting

As I'm waiting for diner to get ready, I'm enjoying this evening w/my hubby! We are having fish and veggies from the grill. I asked if he needed help, but I got a no. So I'm relaxing waiting for my new favorite show to come on. It's called Flipping Out. The main guy on the show reminds me of myself. Also I've been sitting here wanting to say something exciting, but no inspiration came quickly. I had a long day at work due to accounting month end. I did not close out my clients accounts at my goal, but I do get a small bonus for the amount I did close out. I'm glad this month is over for work, and Sept. begins soon.

So I'll write on here as I often did in college w/my roommate about the 5 Things I'm Thankful for Today.
  1. My best friend and husband
  2. My family that is close by
  3. A job to help pay off bills & rent
  4. Chardonnay Francis Coppola
  5. to be reading Wicked by Gregory Maguire

What are you thankful for?

If Cars Exists in Heaven, I'm in the Wrong Place

As I begin to write this I'm beginning to not like my car, But I do like my car because its my first new car. Urg. This Tuesday when I woke up, I had a completely different idea for my day. My plan was to work until noon, then take off to get my hair done. While I was in Fort Worth, I was going to check out a few places to live I've been looking at online. Next I planned to met up w/my mom to celebrate her birthday together. Well my car had a totally different plan for me.

I get back in my car at 12:40 pm, turn my key, and nothing. So I quickly think on my feet and go back inside to exchange my other key; thinking my battery is dead in the key. Well, no, then my second thought comes into mind that my car battery is dead. All of my gages were moving like crazy, and my Cd's were wanting to turn. I had an appointment at 1:00, so I call my lady to say I'm running late, and I have a plan. I just need to call my plan. I call who else, oh yea, birthday girl. MY MOM!! Mom to the rescue. I call my husband, letting him know what's up and knowing that I will get his voicemail, b/c he is always in a meeting on Tue from 12-1. I text him saying I know your in a meeting or working on the floor but I have a 911 w/my car. He quickly calls back, and says I need to tow it somewhere and take it somewhere. So, I knew I had to handle this myself. He told me to cancel my hair appointment, but I knew I needed to go.

I now only have less than 30 minutes to get my mom back to her house, and me downtown Fort Worth. I make it in the Jimmy, get my hair done, and something else really big happened to me, but that will come later. I can't talk about the details just yet.

Now its 5 pm and I call the tow to get my car to the dealership. One jump start later, and now I'm on my way.

Not so fast, I only make it to Hwy 26 next to Bankston Chevrolet. I'm in one of the turn lanes and my car dies. YIKES. I call the dealership to let them know where I am, then call the tow guy, followed by the NRHPD. As soon as my car died I turned on my hazards, but I was watching my dash, and the arrows where going off. So, my gut said to call an officer to direct traffic. After 50 crazy people honking at me, giving looks, I was burning up in my car. The one time my windows are not down, but after 3 minutes pass, I crack my door just enough to not get hit. 13 minuets later NRHPD show up, direct traffic for about two minutes b/c the tow guy comes back. Yes, it's the same guy. He says to me" You did not get very far." Well he quickly jumps me, and I have him follow me to the dealership, and sign the paperwork again.

My gut speaks to me again. I get to the dealership park right up to the garage, but the doors are down. When I spoke to them earlier they were going to met me before they left. By this time it's 6:02. I call the dealership, the lady says "Service has already closed." I say my name again, who I am, and that they are waiting on me, she then said hold on. I then talk w/ the service guy and tell him I'm right by the garage w/ my car running. He then says he will be out there. I'm so not happy. They quickly see what is wrong. They tell me that my car will have to there overnight. They ask me if I have a ride home. I laugh and say, I already have one of my parents car so I'm going to have to call my dad.

Now Dad to the rescue. He picks me up, we talk on the way home. It's now 7pm and I plan a different outing for my mom's birthday. See when I called my dad he had his dinner plate right in front of him and I called to disrupt. We are hungry, but we knew mom had already ate. I call her thinking she wants dessert. She actually was hurting w/her back and was wanting to call it a night. I understand. So, I cooked something for myself, b/c Allen was still at work. I then go to bed upset w/Allen not really being there for me the entire day.

The next day I call first thing in the morning to the dealership to touch base. They tell me they ordered a part and I will need to get a rental car. So keep in mind the time is 9:00 am. I call later to the dealership to confirm my rental will be there when I get there, which I was assured Budget would have a car ready when I get there. Wrong, I wait 30 minutes to finally get the most disgusting car ever. The car was so dirty and I began to feel forgotten. This car was smoked in, taken out for a while, not given a car wash and the keys were handed to me. Once again I'm in a time crunch, I have to pick up Allen b/c he dropped off the Jimmy at my parents house and we have dinner plans with one of his work associates. So I put on a happy face, enjoy our dinner and go home. I try calling Budget, but only get a customer service number. I began to cry. How could this happen to me? I called TWICE to make sure we all had a plan.

Today, I wake up w/a new attitude. I finally get the call that my car is ready and I get to take back my crappy car rental. I also talk w/ the entire service department about my experience and they told me they are about to change to HERTZ. Anyways, this is probably the longest post ever but these are the days I've had.

My dad always says "If cars exists in heaven, then I'm in the wrong place." After my experience for the past 2 days, I don't want to see a car in heaven. When I die and if I see I car I know I'm in HELL. Sorry for being so blunt, but I'm so mad!

The Peace that Nature Brings

This Sunday morning, my alarm on my phone goes off w/every intention on getting ready to go to church. Something told me I should first go outside and enjoy a fresh breath of air. I did wake up stuffy as our family likes to say! While I was outside I could not just sit the entire time, so I watered our plants & flowers, cleaned off our little patio table and now I'm here w/our new little toy the HP Mini writing to you guys.
Nature has a way w/our bodies & minds to really stop our crazy schedule and take a moment in. First off, I saw one of our rabbits that live close by a bush, out eating this morning. Normally we see our rabbits during the evening time. As I look into the sky I can see hopeful happenings today. All of a sudden I hear an owl, and remember that my mom loves owls. I feel a touch a breeze on my skin, and am reminded of mornings w/my parents on our back patio. Everything is green, clean, and crisp. I recommend this morning that where ever you are in our world take a moment outside to enjoy your surroundings.

Later today we will get to enjoy being w/my family. Allen is cooking steaks, and my mom is cooking baked beans, and corn. Personally it kind of sounds heavy, but I'm going w/it. I'm really looking forward to seeing both my sisters. I have not seen them in quite some time.

Don't forget step outside!!

The Smell

One sniff, one long steam pouring out of this bag, and one sneeze later. What is that horrible smell? Do people realize how long it took me to get my perfect aroma in this house? NO! Seriously that smell is really bad, so we opened all the doors so the smoke alarm did not go off, and the bag w/ a stream of steam leading behind quickly went out the patio door. That my friends is how my parents burnt popcorn.

2 Days

OFF! YEA. Finally, I'm off 2 days in a row. I'm so tired, but hopefully making lots of money! I've been crazy at work, but glad I have a job. The only thing I have to do is my first rehearsal for our fall season in Flute Choir. Allen's car is acting up again, so in the morning we have to repair his car again. I look forward to SYTYCD final show, reading WICKED & seeing my parents new car on my days off. Ice cream, making brownies, while doing laundry, and maybe a mani/pedi also is on the list on my days off. Well, while you all go make your money I'm going to relax, practice, and clean!! BYE.

Random Happenings

My hubby is normally OK, but the last few days, he has left everyday early from work due to lower back pains. He went to the Ciro doctor. The doctor says its mostly muscular. This is not normal for him. I hope all is well very soon for him. He is too young for back pains.

We visited friends Friday night, & their dog accidentally got Allen on the arm, and back of the leg w/ scratches. So, we bandaged him up and off to work we both went on Sat. When we got off, we ate at Gloria's in Colleyville, then headed off for a fun shopping trip to Best Buy. We bought a new toy. The above image is very similar to what we got. We named our new computer mini me! This is a netbook which is great for us when we travel. We can keep track w/our moneys, if we have to pay a bill online, or blog on this awesome site!

On the way back from Best Buy, we stopped off at CVS to grab more bandages. As we pull out, I say, "look fireworks!" I began to drive towards home, but my curiosity and eyes kept looking towards the fireworks. So, I pull over to one of the spots that DFW airport was going to be located at and we watch together a random show of fireworks.

I slept in Sunday morning, then began my usual cleaning of the bathroom, a couple loads of laundry, and paying bills. In between loads, I noticed how dusty our laundry room was, so I began cleaning the dust in between the dryer/washer, & cleaned off the dust on the lid of the washer. Who knew to clean the inside lid of the washer? Allen comes over to make sure I'm OK, b/c I made quite a racket, and he really is not physically capable of moving the washer/dryer anymore than I did to clean.

I clean up, and off we went, shopping for deli meat, and a few items to finish our at home dinner tonight. I actually helped w/chopping all the veggies, & skewered them, and made our baked potatoes. I also spiced up our chicken breast! "We had a very vegetarian meal." Allen said. We split our one piece of chicken and 1/2 our plate was full of squash, zucchini, red pepper, tomatoes, onions, and mushrooms, and our potato! I recommend this meal to anyone, b/c nothing was fried, and no salt! Also, all veggies were almost in their perfect state for our bodies getting all nutrients possible.

Did you have any random things happen to you this weekend?

Summer Food & a Relaxing Night

Bruschetta is our summer dish at this house! This is such an easy add on to a meal, a great afternoon snack or a yummy appetizer. I know there are lots of ways to make it. Here is how we make/eat our bruschetta:

  • Fresh bread is a must from the bakery b/c no preservatives

  • Sprinkle a little parmesan cheese

  • Then put in your oven at 350* for 1-2 minutes

  • Take out of oven, to spread your pesto, put a few fresh tomatoes (preferably from your home grown garden), and lay one slice of mozzarella cheese on top.

  • Put back in your oven at 350* long enough to melt the cheese

  • Apply a few drops of balsamic vinaigrette on top

  • Enjoy eating!

SYTYCD comes on in t minutes. I have found my 2 favorites. They are both girls, which I think will be safe tonight. Enjoy your Thursday night. No FC!(You know who you are)

Family Reunion

Hello world from Tyler TX.
We made it through another Family Reunion. Does anyone really have good times at a family reunion?

First rule: AC is a must!
Second rule: AC must be accurately running to handle 40 people.
Third rule: AC has to work!

Can I say more!!

At the moment, the AC is the most important.

We have currently changed 3 rooms in less than 24 hours.
Eaten OK food, except for me. I refuse to eat the BBQ here.

The benefits. We have seen the fun family we want to see, which is now in our room. I've made sure, (w/Allen's help) everyone has their beverage of choice. Mostly beer, and Titos Vodka. Well more people are in our room now, so I'm signing off for now.

We are going swimming now!

Lake Therapy

First of all, this is long overdue! But, I wanted to reminisce being a kid again. I've worked just about every waking moment since the 5th until now. I got one day to enjoy America's Birthday! I was invited to celebrate the 4th at Lake Granbury.
Growing up in Texas and having a family that years ago spent most of their weekends at a lake, I can say I really enjoy it. I have so many 4th of July memories at a lake. We would drive to Lake Arrowhead, stop along the way to grab fireworks, & a watermelon, then arrive just before noon, to have a Sandwich. We would begin watering the field that we would later that evening set of fireworks. My sisters and I could not wait to jump in the lake for a swim. As we got older, then came the sea do's/jet skies. So to sum up last weekend, I really enjoyed 24 hours of no stress of work/bills, and had a blast from the past for me. Thanks to the Greatest Friends & your Family ever!!

This weekend: We are off to a Family Reunion. I'll post to that later.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to one of our friends. We will met up later to celebrate!

We Found You After 2 Years

Yea! We finally found a replacement trash can for our kitchen. This trash can is made by Simple human. We found this great find today at Bed Bath & Beyond, on sale, w/a 20% coupon, and to top it off a $50.00 visa gift card I had! Thanks mom, for always making sure we hold on to coupons.

In a two weeks we are having family stay so we are preparing for their visit. We wanted to buy 2 pillows for them, so I found the perfect kind. We bought Laura Ashley, Natural Elements line. These pillows are Eco friendly & inexpensive. They are made from natural non-dyed, non-bleached fabric recycled polyester fill, and packaged w/ a biodegradable bag.

You can't just stop at a pillow. You must get a pillow cover, so we did. This is where a funny story comes in. Allen knows my mom, and what she has taught me. Allen then said, "Do you want to find the bug bags?" I pointed to them, which I had glanced at, and already made my decision. He quickly said, "Is that the price for one?". I told him yes. He said for $20.00 each, they can go bug cover less! "I'm buying them brand new pillows." He said. I agreed.

I currently am on the hunt for 100 % organic towels. I found some two weeks ago at Pottery Barn. We have had the same towels for 5 years, and this year they are beginning to show wear & tear. The worst towel was our floor towel. So for the past two months I've been looking to replace it w/Eco friendly materials. I found one that was made out of cork, but in the end I found a beige color, 100 % organic cotton floor mat. After cleaning the bathroom from top to bottom, I was able to debut our new mat. So, I will continue to research, and find our new Eco friendly towels. One of my missions I live by is from my work. I really want to find renewable, Eco chick items, that we use in our daily lives. Part of our mission states to care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways in which we give back to society.

In conclusion, I feel complete when I follow our mission, by buying green stuff for the home!

We can't wait to go back

Yes, we love the beach. Who does not like it? We got close to the beach yesterday. We went swimming over our favorite pool. We like to say its the closest to the beach b/c its a salt water pool, & secluded. At least we feel that way, b/c its the only thing in the backyard. The above picture gives you the idea of being outside w/ a little bit of shade so you can sit under. Well, that was my intention while I created my own shade for about 30 seconds. The umbrella came tumbling sideways exactly at a ninety degree angle. The base completely rusted out!

Today is Fathers Day! I hope many of you out there have many memories like I do on this day. Many times we would be on a camping trip, or at our great grandparents lake house. Today we are heading off to my sisters house for a hamburger cook off. I do need to get busy and make a pasta dish and a dessert!

Early this week we had a first!! We make homemade bruschetta. We used 5 of our home grown tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, pesto, and balsamic vinegar. We also cooked out fresh veggies, and gulf shrimp. I would highly recommend this meal if you are in the mood for something fresh & light.

Well, I do need to clean up, get to the store, and get cooking!!

Day Outings are Fun

Going to the Ballpark today was a great way to end the month of May for us. Too many things happened, but I do want to sum up a great month.
  • Our Flute choir was placed as outstanding ensemble for competition.
  • I played my solo well for a very famous judge (which I did not know at the time)
  • Our Flute choir had a very successful spring series.
  • I celebrated my birthday w/ a great steak meal at home w/ friends & family

For Memorial Weekend we celebrated w/ going over to a friends house, enjoying lots of newborns, and food. Later that evening we concluded our weekend w/ another great steak meal at home w/ family, & a possible future family member. (You know who you are if you even read my blog)

We survived our crazy month which I'm kind of glad we were busy. As we approach a very hard month ahead, I want to thank everyone w/ your continued support for us. Not all bad things happen in June. I have 2 friends who will celebrate a birthday, my mom & dad's anniversary, as well as a friends anniversary. Also our Flute choir will meet everyday for one week to record our 2ND Christmas CD. These are the things I'm grateful for. Our Sunday is not over, & it's getting close to dinner time!

Visits are Fun

I'm at big mama's house tonight! Yea, I am visiting my friend Rufus & we are having a blast. I get to be over here while our house gets ready for the maintenance people to visit and for the carpet guy to come to clean my thrown. After all, my nose is only two inches away, so it needs to be very clean. My mom is very busy for May w/ her 4 jobs, that's no joke. I will put a bug in her ear to post soon.
Enjoy your Wednesday night!

Round 2

Car problems again. I get a call at 5am, saying "My car has died, I need help." One tow to Speedi, and another $400.00 later, the car is back. It's a good thing we did not go to one of our favorite cities, San Antonio. Maybe in a couple of months we will indulge ourselves with Boudro's. Anyone that wants to join us, simply email me, and we will have a blast. No doubt!
YoYo is finally pooping. He is feeling much better. He even got a bath today.
Also on the list of things that got done this weekend were laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning the bathroom, and making chicken salad, which I'm about to eat soon.

The month of May will be a crazy time here at YoYo's house. I have several things going. I need to get ready for Texas Flute Society. I'm helping my dad sale CD's, and working mother's day weekend at AVEDA.

Well, I'm off to get ready for the day. I'm done w/cleaning. Allen should be home soon from work. I wonder what yummy stuff he has planned for cooking. He has made some great pork chops, and steaks recently.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Crapy Weekend

Hello all. So, when your husband calls you on your lunch break, and Say's "I need you to help me take my car in to get the breaks fixed." Normally, you would be like OK. Great timing. I'm almost finished shoving down a piece of pizza that I really did not want. He then calls you about 2 hours later after the car has been dropped off, and tells you more detail about the car, your still like OK, whatever you need help w/I'm there for you.

YoYo began not keeping his food down at all. I'm talking, the food was not in the digestion process. So, you began to think, OK upset stomach. YoYo has been know to not drink allot of water. Actually he only drinks a couple of times a day. So, second, you began to think that he may be dehydrated.

Apparently, my cell phone has been on its way out for a while. Friday afternoon around 4:00 my coworker told me to fix YoYo rice w/ chicken broth, so I began to call Allen. I could hear him, but he could not hear me. First, I thought, I needed to move away from my office. I go outside, still nothing. He can't hear me. I then go to another part of my office, still nothing. I finally call him on my office line to at least get the message to him about the rice.

Minutes before I arrive home from work, YoYo has thrown up all the rice. So then we call Allen's sister. She instructs us to buy Pepto Bismol, so out we go. First we go get food at Carrabbas. While we were waiting on our food, we did a test on my cell phone. I asked the bartender which we know well, if it was OK to call him. Same scenario, I can hear him, but he can't hear me.

We come home, to give YoYo 1/2 a teaspoon of Pepto Bismol and go to bed.

Saturday morning, I give YoYo a teaspoon of food. Yea, he keeps that down. Still no water consumption, even when I forced him. YoYo's attitude was normal. He wanted food, and wanted to play.

Saturday morning, I call Sprint, to tell them about my issue w/ my cell phone. I make an appointment, and off I go. 30 minutes later, the guy tells me after looking at my account that it will cost $99.00 to see if they can fix the problem. I tell him immediately that, I was not ready to buy a phone today, but obviously I can buy a new phone for $30.00 more, and that would be the better deal. So, I look at phones for a short while, and I mean a short while because the sales person was so pushy. He asked me what I use a cell phone for, I tell, him, and then he says so what is there to think about. I would go w/ this. I told him 3 times that I need to think about it. I was very familiar w/ one particular brand of phone. I was not really liking the other cell phones due to the buttons being very tiny. I do like to text, and I want a user friendly cell phone for that reason. I call home, to see if I can get advice from the one brand of phone I'm used to, but there not home. So, I talk to my mom. She said to try Best Buy. I look at them online, and they have the phone I'm looking for. So, when Allen gets home from work, out we go to Best Buy.

I'm really hoping this 2 hour adventure I'm on about my cell phone already is almost over, by simply buying the phone I did my quick research on. On the way there, my sister calls, to make sure Sprint has not come out/or soon will come out w/ a new version of the phone. The guy was new to Best Buy, so I had to be patient. I was willing to be patient b/c he was helpful. We do find out that a new version of the Instinct has come out. This is where I have to be patient. The guy helping us was his first time setting anyone up w/ this phone. I was also able to get my points on the phone and be able to pay out my $175.00 investment in 3 months. One hour later I was walking out w/ the new Instinct s30.

Remember, I was really not wanting to spend almost $200.00 to buy a phone. I liked the one I had. I'm also trying my best to pay off my credit cards, so yes, when Allen got home from work on Saturday, I was annoyed at the fact about having to spend money.

When we return, we tried feeding YoYo, w/water in his food and give him a little more food than this morning. We began to clean up the house, and then 30 minutes later YoYo throws up about 1/2 of his food. He then hops on the couch where I'm setting. I notice he is warmer than normal. Allen then, makes an ice pack for our dog. So sweet. The ice pack only last about 5 minutes, and then YoYo has no interest in the ice pack.

Meanwhile, while YoYo is on the ice pack, I have to call Sprint b/c I notice I can't receive/or dial out phone numbers/text. I'm on hold, b/c I think I'm the first one ever to buy this phone. The guy had to get instructions to help me. While I was on hold, Allen & I discuss that we should take YoYo to the animal hospital. So, I call the vet place from the house phone, to see if they are open, and if we need to make an appointment.

It's now 10pm. We are off to the animal hospital. We arrive to a dark place, w/ no cars in site. Great, they have moved. Remember I called the vet place from our home not the new cell phone. I quickly call my mom, which does not know anything about YoYo at this point to simply get a phone number. We finally arrive to the new location which is new to us, not them. Once we check in, the lady at the front desk tells me, they have been there since July. We shortly go back to a room. The tech begins the examination process on YoYo, and also is asking us questions. The doctor then comes in to begin his examination. Remember YoYo has been not keeping any food down for 2 days. Apparently the doctor only heard the part of YoYo throwing up his food for dinner Saturday night. He says to us, that he can't see any outside, abnormal signs of YoYo. So he gives us three options. We can pick if we want to give him a pill, or give him a shot, or do an Xray to see him internally. We all three begin talking about not understanding the vomiting. I told the doctor I simply do not understand why he keeps on vomiting. The doctor asked me when he began vomiting. I told him Thursday night. The tech even wrote YoYos symptoms down when she was in the room. The doctor later told us, he did not read the sheets, and he was preoccupied. The doctor immediately said, he was sorry, about not understanding the time frame, and that it was in YoYo's best interest to do an Xray.

10 minutes later I'm looking at an Xray full of poop. Yes, YoYo is constipated. So 30 minutes later, we get YoYo back all drugged up b/c the doctor had to perform a not so pretty procedure if you know what I mean, all wrapped up in a pee blanket.

$400.00 later, we are instructed on what to do for the next 24-48 hours. If you are all wanting to know, No he has not pooped all day. We are approaching on the 23rd hour on Sunday, and nothing. I hope he poops soon.

So the lessons I've learned this weekend is I'm so grateful to have my husband help me out in my cell phone crises, as well as our dog's crises. He has been so comforting during this crazy time.

I also told him I could have titled this blog as an expensive weekend w/out the getaway.

$400.00 + on breaks

$175.00 on a cell phone

$400.00 to have a doctor tell us YoYo is constipated.

Daily Commute

Please help me congratulate my husband. He got transferred to a closer store. He now drives 1/2 the distance to work. He said it takes 6 trips to his one trip. This is great news in several areas of our life. One, a tank of gas can last 2 weeks vs. 1 week. He does not have to get up an hour earlier than he is used to even though he has gotten used to late nights, and early mornings.
Commuting can also make us ill, study says.

So I did a little research. I looked at this one article that said the percent of commuters driving 90 minutes or more is getting higher every year. TX is ranked 19 out of all the 52 states. Guess who is number one. NY.

I also looked at another article that talked about our health behind the wheel. Apparently we breath allot of yucky stuff behind our own car. Concentrations of the ultra fine particles emitted by diesel vehicles are four to eight times higher inside a car, bus and train than in open air, the report said. Particles can cause respiratory and cardiovascular problems.
Cars directly behind diesel trucks have higher concentrations of pollution inside than those traveling on routes less used by trucks.

All in all, I'm super excited that we can save a little green, he can save time, and become a little healthier.

So here is some good news along with food w/ thought. Yep, its almost dinner time!

Recovery Time

We are on our way to good health. I was able to walk/run 1.58 miles once this week. In about 30 minutes I'll be at flute practice and my voice is almost back. Allen is getting back in his groove too.

Work has been crazy, but actually good.

Great news: My friend Karyn finally had a baby girl.

Welcome Baby Jenna!

Congrats to our friend Craig that found out he got accepted into the teaching program.

I also have a strawberry that turned red today!

All is up and up at this house. Enjoy your night!

I get no Attention

Sleeping, sitting, laying. This is what my two weeks of life have been like. Both my mom & dad are sick. So, when they are not here, I am bored, and when they get home, I am bored. Mom has a bad sinus infection. Dad probably has the same thing, b/c all his symptoms are the same. They both cough, blow noses w/ Kleenex, which one accidentally got on the floor. I claimed that as mine. I shredded that into a million pieces in the other room while they watched TV.

So soon, I hope this household is back to normal. I miss my walks outside.

Music

Music is one of the best things here on earth.

Music is my passion. I begin showing interest in music early on. My mom took me to the old North East Mall (before construction) next to Nordstrom's to a music store. I learned keyboard in the back of a music store by a lady. I remember I labeled my keyboard with bright neon colors that represented the notes on the board.

I can also remember my dad playing what I always still call "Dad music". He loves CCR, Three Dog Night and old country.

I am a musician. I play the flute. I begin learning to play in the 6Th grade. I have many accomplishments and many more to achieve in my music life. I'm defenilty competitive. I continue to take private lessons from an incredible women. I have so much respect for this lady. She has helped me keep my flute up by playing w/her in various activites. We play duets together for church service. I'm in a flute choir called the Flutissimo Flute Choir. We are currently working in our Spring serries. We will record our 2nd christmas CD this summer! I can go on for miles posting about my music stuff, so for now this is just a capture of what I'm doing now.

I can tell you that I'd alway tell my mom, "Give me 30 minutes and I'll be back." I'd say this to her if we were arguing about something, or if I was simply having a bad day. I still say this now. I come home from work, and pick up my flute for a bit and feel so much better. This is my stress release. My sister Amanda would always tell me she could not understand why my stress could go away just my picking up my flute. She said picking up her saxophone gave her stress. I would tell her I'm not sure but it simply makes me feel better.

What kind of music do you like? I get this question asked all the time. A musician typically will say all kinds, at least that is what I say. I have so much respect for artist, that I have learned to like music I never thought I would like. During the 80's error if you asked anyone in the music business if a Hip Hop artist could take home the most prized award in music people would say "No way will a Hip Hop artist take home a Grammy." Now these are the artist that are having to 10 hits, that are in our play list on our Ipods, or in our car CD players. So this is just an example of why I have an open mind about music, b/c you never know who will be the next hit.

We like Itunes at this house, and Allen has done a wonderful job at our play list. Almost a year ago, I got an Ipod Touch. Now I listen to it at work, when I work out (go run), watch movies on it (when we went on the ski trip), play games, even check email!! We now turn on Itunes almost 90% of the time before we will turn on the radio.

Last week at church, they were asking people to find a place to serve. They have many activities w/in the church to serve. They had booths set up w/all of the groups. My husband asked if I wanted to go to the music table. Maybe one day. I told him I feel like I already serve just not here yet. I play at retirement centers, play the National Anthem at the Ballpark in Arlington, Toys for Tots etc. I serve in my own way, and the way that makes me happy.

Spring

Spring is around the corner.
The first signs of spring happen when,
you are awaken by the birds chirping outside your bedroom window,
when you take a walk in the park and see baby chicks in the pond,
when trees, bushes, and flowers begin to bud,
when you see the first butterfly,
when you see the first ladybug,
when you see the first roly-poly,
and finally when daylight savings time comes, you know spring is around the corner.

Spring official kicks off March 20, 2009.

This is my favorite time of the year. Many of you that know me, know that I have to cram a million things in a 24 hour period. So, I feel like when it gets dark later, I’ve accomplished more in one day in the spring time than any other time of the year.

I enjoy the colors of spring, such as the light blues, lemonade yellow, lime green, fuchsia, and bright orange. I also enjoy reading a book on the patio, or having dinner for 2 on the patio.

What do you like about Spring?

5 am Comes Early

So far my Tue. morning has been good. Allen & I woke this morning at 5am to take Brittany my sister to the airport. She is currently flying solo because her friends missed the time to check in bags. So, she will land soon in the city that never sleeps. Yes, you guessed it Vegas!
Then Allen cooked a great breakfast before we both head off to work. This day is usually the longest day for Allen, b/c he closes at work and gets home late. Also today is the day I attempt to cook dinner. So I'm not sure what I want to do. I will ponder that while at work. Everyone, take time to enjoy the day, and do something for yourself.

Tacos & Amazing Race

These are two things I like. My sister came over to enjoy a night of taco salads, a couple of cervezas, and some amazing race. I like this show due to the competitiveness. People get to travel around the world, pick up clues for their next destination and win prizes along the way.

I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend. Listed below is what I got accomplished before a busy week ahead.
Paid bills, including paying off a credit card!
Cleaned house
Laundry
Worked on my solo
Made it to church for the 2nd week in a row
Read my book (I’m almost done)

Now I’m going to enjoy the rest of my Sunday w/ my family! You do the same!

Hello all. I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. My friend Rufus came by Sat. and we went for a walk. Taking a walk is so much fun. I lay around the house so much, that getting outside is great. I know mom also enjoys seeing her mom too! Well enjoy the rest of Sunday.

Numb

Since I was 2 ½, my mom has taken me to the dentist twice a year. I began my dentist adventures w/ Dr. Jeff. I went to him I think until my second year in college was over. I then began going to my 2nd dentist doctor in my life which just happened to be next door. I’ve been through teeth pulling, braces, my wisdom teeth being taken out my spring break during my senior year in high school and a couple of cavity experiences. This leads me to now. Today, I spent $106.00 to have 2 tiny cavities taken care of. I don’t get them very much, but it got me to thinking. I don’t think I eat a lot of bad stuff which I call great stuff such as chocolate (M & M’s) being my favorite! Do I stop? I don’t think so!! I do no that while I write this entry, the feeling of being numb is weird!

When the Grass is Frozen

The ground is white, the grass is stiff and cold,

I can't move because everytime I move, this stuff crunches.

What is this?

All I know is this stuff is cold and I can't pee or poop.

I can't move!

All I want to do is go inside!
Help me.

Edamame

Edamame is a green vegetable more commonly known as a soybean, harvested at the peak of ripening right before it reaches the "hardening" time. The word Edamame means "Beans on Branches," and it grows in clusters on bushy branches. To retain the freshness and its natural flavor, it is parboiled and quick-frozen. In East Asia, the soybean has been used for over two thousand years as a major source of protein. Edamame is consumed as a snack, a vegetable dish, used in soups or processed into sweets. As a snack, the pods are lightly boiled in salted water, and then the seeds are squeezed directly from the pods into the mouth with the fingers.

My sisters, Amanda & Brittany introduced this new food to me while celebrating Amanda's birthday in October at Piranha Killer Sushi in downtown Fort Worth. I have eaten these pods a few different ways.
  1. lightly salted w/ sea salt

  2. garlic & spices

  3. Sautéed w/ sea salt

This is a green veggie and 10 years ago I would not have thought about Edamame. I would only eat lettuce and green beans (barely).

This is a great healthy snack or great starter before a meal. Today, this is now one of my favorite foods.

Grooming Day

Yes, I went to the doggie beauty shop. I'm back to short hair, and I'm sporting a Valentine themed bandana. I'll make this entry short. I also want to wish everyone a great weekend. It will be cold, so bundle up. I will even put a sweater on. Enjoy!

History was made Today

Today, Barack H. Obama became our 44th President of the United States. I had a vendor ask me today if I was going to close the office for this historic day. I told him every four years is historic. I worked by myself today, and actually got to see a small clip of it today. I missed the actual swearing in, but one of my coworkers said to catch it on the net. I actually had a tour that came in. I hope the lady I helped was not a secret shop, but if she was then I think I did ok.

Many people are talking about Michelle Obama’s dress tonight for the 10 balls they are going to attend. Fashion is such a big deal. President Ford’s wife recycled a dress she wore when Mr. Ford was governor. Many people did not like that idea. Mrs. Regan’s dress was the most expensive at $25,000. So we will see.Well, I am going to actually start dinner tonight. As many of you know Allen does most of the cooking. I hope many of you were able, and continue to catch a glimpse of history today in our country.

I Love to Travel

Allow me to introduce to you my mom. I’m not going anywhere permanently. You will hear from us both throughout this blog. Plus she is much more interesting than little me!

Wow, what a great 2009 start for us. I would highly recommend a ski trip to the mountains to everyone. The experience of learning something new is very rewarding; the view is something you will never forget, and being around great friends soaking in every moment together is something to cherish.

Thanks to all that are here that gave us great tips before we left, and ha-ha to the people that said to not come back with a broken leg. We came back very sore, but wishing to be there tomorrow.

I will say your normal life as you know it changes a bit for a day or two, until you get in a daily grove. We would wake up at 7:00 am to a guy shoveling snow outside our window and the first bus driving of to Copper Mountain. We would get geared up, get a little grub in our stomach, and hop on the next bus to Copper. At 4:00 pm, the slopes close, and then its time to eat.
Skiing is very physical, and I have much respect for the professionals. I would lag behind getting to and from the bus, because you have to keep up with your gear. I was determined to hold on to my stuff despite my size. All of us would say, “Ok, we got our pre walk before the workout!”
We began our experience with lessons which was just ok. I mainly learned the how to of skiing. The second day was a great powder day, but hard for beginners. I would like to say, “Thanks Kaylan, for teaching us the snaking down the mountain.” The third day, we headed back to the bunny slops for more individual learning. We soon graduated to the next slopes called the Lumber Jack. We then met up with Craig & Kaylan for lunch before heading down a green slope that we would be comfortable doing. I would say by then, we were enjoying skiing on the mountain. Later that night, we drove into Breckenridge CO. to celebrate Allen’s birthday. We ate at a place called Kenosha Steakhouse. We also successfully found our first geocach. I’ll touch on this later, but it is a really cool scavenger game that will get you hooked. I only did it for two days, and now I’m looking for a great hand held GPS system. The fourth and final day was fun. We took photos at the top of the mountain, and Kaylan took me on my first blue slope. Craig & Allen split off to do their final run which from what I hear included some moguls! We concluded our ski day with a fabulous night just next door to our hotel. We all went to a newly opened sushi place that was phenomenal. The Frisco smoked trout is to die for!

All in all, I’m very proud of what we both learned together. I can’t wait to go back next year.

Cleaning Day

It's cleaning day here at YoYo's house. The bathroom is sparkling. I can eat on the floor again, or on the shelves in the kitchen. The living room ceiling fan is dust free! We even filed away 2008's old bills in a box to get room for the 2009 bills in the file box. Well everyone, enjoy this nice sunny day today. Peace.

It's a Great Day at the Park

Well, it was a great day after I got a bath from my owners. When I stay at the grandparents house, I have to always wear a sweater. I was so glad to get that sweater off as soon as I got home. I then lounged a bit just before going for a walk outside. My parents took me to a new park today. Afterwards, we watched the new mummy movie.

It's a Dog's Life

Hello and welcome to my life as YoYo. I am a 3 year old male Yorkshire terrier. I like to say I have a great life. Who doesn’t want to live a dog’s life? We get to lounge around anytime we want and eat when our owners decide to kneel to us. I have two wonderful parents. My parents feed me all kinds of goodies such as carrots, and all natural foods. They also like to take me on walks, mostly to get the mail, and my dad really enjoys playing fetch with me. I have a trunk full of toys, and my baby duck is still my favorite after three years. This is just a small recap of what happens at my pad which I like to call “YoYo’s house.”
I also have a second house I go to when my parents are really busy or on vacation. This house is what I like to call my home away from home, because my grandparents take really good care of me there. I have a buddy named Rufus which is a male Pomeranian. We play all the time, get popcorn after we go outside, and get tons of carrots when granddad eats his dinner. I have lots of aunts and uncles too.All of these people I have introduced to you, you will get to hopefully enjoy learning more about through this new blog I have created.
